Zero tolerance for breakdowns, zero compromise on safety
An airport never stops. Day and night, in -20°C frost or driving rain, runways must stay operational, tarmacs cleared and infrastructure fully functional. In this environment where failure is simply not an option, the Unimog has established itself as the benchmark for airport operators on every continent.
Its round-the-clock availability, its ability to switch attachments in minutes, and its proven toughness in extreme weather conditions make it a central pillar of operational continuity.
Runway snow clearing: a race against time
In winter, every minute matters. An international airport that lets snow build up on a runway can lose dozens of rotations per hour. The Unimog steps in with extra-wide snow ploughs (clearing widths up to 3,600 mm), snow blowers capable of throwing powder snow up to 30 metres, and spreaders that apply de-icing agents with pinpoint precision.
The difference from a standard vehicle also comes down to transit speed: at 90 km/h on the road, the Unimog can reach a secondary runway or a taxiway in an emergency without losing time.
On the tarmac: versatility and FOD safety
Beyond winter operations, the Unimog is active year-round on aprons and taxiways. The sweeper with magnetic pick-up eliminates FOD (Foreign Object Debris), which poses a serious risk to jet engines. The steam high-pressure washer removes rubber deposits and oil stains from runway surfaces without damaging the pavement. The telescopic LED lighting mast keeps night operations safe.
In ports: access to difficult areas
Port infrastructure combines paved surfaces, quays, breakwaters and unpaved areas where standard vehicles simply cannot go. The Unimog, with its portal axles and high ground clearance, moves through conditions that would bog down conventional machines. For structural maintenance, the aerial work platform reaches elevated points without the need for additional lifting equipment.
